THANK YOU FOR THE “YOUTUBE PLAY BUTTON” AWARD!

My YouTube Play Button, or my YouTube Creator Reward, came in the mail today. It’s Silver, which means I have over 100,000 subscribers (thank you). Of course, currently Sex Ed the Series has over 278,000 subscribers (thank you, thank you!). Better late than never.

The Gold Play Button is for channels with 1,000,000 subscribers. I think we can do it. (It would help if we created more content, which… just wait and see. Fingers crossed, 2017 is going to be a very exciting year!

My never-ending gratitude to everyone involved who made this possible.

BOOKNOOK.BIZ SEZ “DEVIL’S CATCH” COVER IS DONE RIGHT!

Screen Shot 2015-08-31 at 4.34.45 PM

I couldn’t be more pleased to discover this article by the friendly folk at Booknook.biz. Read the full article HERE.

The article is so thorough, going through each element of design and evaluating it, that I feel I’d passed a final exam! All I can add is this: from my perspective, a great book grabs the eye and doesn’t let go. Everything else – info on the story, taglines, etc – can be secondary, or put on the back cover. The goal is to get someone to click or pick up your book to find out more. I’m pleased to find out it’s working.

Big thanks to Cintia Gonzalvez for the art and Philip Anderson for the design, and a huge debt of gratitude to Kimberly Hitchens and all the great people at her company, Booknook.biz.

FYI: I use Booknook.biz. They’re a great conversion company for eBooks: I found them to be professional, friendly, current; they make your book look great. No exchange of any kind was made between us for their article. They just thought the cover was rad. I do too.

Don’t believe me? Pick up a copy on print or Kindle to judge for yourself!

DEVIL’S CATCH – AN INTRODUCTION

cover_definitive - CROPDIt was going to be a Mozart opera with a body count. It didn’t turn out that way.

Sex Ed was done, to begin with. It was 2009. I was full of bluster and vinegar, but I had harbored a secret, one I could no longer keep down inside: I was a long time horror movie fan.

Devil’s Catch was my coming out party.

I wanted to create your typical “teenagers go to a cabin in the woods to have sex with each other” story, but instead of a killer or monster killing them off, they themselves would kill each other off.

“HORRIBLY FABULOUS” – FIRST REVIEW! “DEVIL’S CATCH” RECEIVES FIVE STARS ON AMAZON

Amazon reader Cecilia Stein writes:

“This was fantastic! Really funny and lots of horror. Of course it had some stock characters as every teen slasher should, but the main character was unique and interesting. From the first chapter, Devil’s Catch is off with a bloody bang and the end is really fabulous and unexpected”

Cecilia, I couldn’t agree with you more! Thank you for taking the time to read and review – and being first!

Only $11.99 in paperback and $4.99 for Kindle. While supplies last.

DEVIL’S CATCH: THE MAKING OF A BOOK COVER, PART TWO

Plagues_cover_color copy

Continued from PART ONE. You can read PART ONE HERE.

Cintia said yes.

Thankfully, she was agreeable to modifying one of her existing works for the purposes of a book cover. Interestingly enough, she had lent one of her other works for the cover for an Italian publication!

Our deal was simple: she agreed to revise her existing work, try a frog and locust on the lips to see which worked best for Devil’s Catch’s central image.

Cintia got it right on her first try. The worm and centipede were her idea. (If you like her work, check out her fashion designs on Quirky Me.)

Great! So I had the central image (above). Now what? How do you take a key image and turn it into a book cover proper?

By finding an experienced designer.

Luckily, I had one in mind.

Enter Philip Anderson.

Phil was the designer behind the Sex Ed logo and poster. He also designed the Corina Books logo and all the banners you see up top on my blog.

Phil is nothing if not versatile, as you can see by the many comps he sent me:

DEVILS CATCH_8DEVILS CATCH_6

DEVILS CATCH_5DEVILS CATCH_2DEVILS-CATCH_1

Finally, Phil and I arrived at a cover that had the most impact for me. It just felt right: the right color, the right font choice (Birch btw), the right background, the right cropping of the face.

If you need any design services, may I heartily recommend Mr Philip Anderson (visit his site HERE).

Devil’s Catch is available on print and Kindle on Amazon.ernie-frankenstein-TimesNewRoman2
